Now my longest shot, which is also my longest first shot kill, is at 630 yards on a rockchuck with my .243 AI.

Hey Rick....you should have a go at shooting IHMSA (Handgun Silhouette). I used to shoot it regularly...Chickens at 50yds, Javelina at 100yds, Turkeys at 150yds and Big Horn Ram at 200yds.

Using my 10" BBL TC Contender in 30.30 Win, with open sights, I used to be able to shoot 5" groups at 200yds. I had to give it up when I couldn't see the sights properly...bloody eyes.

The handguns of choice back then were TC Contenders, XP100, a smattering of S&W Mod 29 in .44 Mag and plenty of Dan Wessons in .44 Mag.

First shot fell well short....gave it about a 3 ft holdover and pretty soon...."PING"

I broke my past record in March of this year. I was prone, took 3 rds., 257 Weatherby, 100 gr. Nosler. On a Groundhog at 1111 yds. appox. I lazed the bush the groundhog came from into a field. It will be Summer until I'll get another chance at that distance.

I killed a rabbit with a knife once. Killed a rockchuck last week at ~515 with my .243 AI.

Cary, I put a piece of electrical tape over the muzzle of my long guns if they are loaded. Been considering doing the same on my carry guns.

The burning is almost gone. It is only slightly red now. I think I might live. My wife forbids me to use any of my weapons until I've cleaned them. She's certain that I had a bug in the barrel. Heck, I leave two or three of them propped up by the back door (on the inside of the house) and that poor bug was just looking for a home. I will look down the barrel before I do any shooting from now on.
